Video & Sound FAQ

In this section you will find useful information and answers to Frequently Asked Questions related to sound and graphics.

Which ports do I need to open to receive the streamed audio?

In order to allow for this new feature in the Entropia Universe, your firewall must allow connection to an external media server operated by the Asteroid owner.

Port 554 should be opened for TCP outgoing connections.

No details concerning your Entropia Universe account will be disclosed by connecting to the media server.

Does the Entropia Universe support Mobility cards?

We test the Entropia Universe on ATI Radeon and Nvidia GeForce graphics cards only. So far, mobility cards have not been included in our tests. Some ATI Mobility cards are known to cause problems while participating in the Entropia Universe. Please download the latest driver from the site of your Notebooks manufacturer. If it still does not work, it might help to reduce the graphic effects (same as for older cards) under 'Options' in the Client Loader.

I have the required driver for my graphics card installed, but the 'System Check' still does not seem to acknowledge the driver.

The driver might be corrupt. Try removing it and make a fresh installation. Before updating drivers we recommend uninstalling the existing ones and only installing the new ones after a reboot.

Why does the 'System Check' give me a red warning on my codec? I know I have the correct codec installed.

It could be that your codec is somehow corrupt. You can try to reinstall the codec:

  1. Select 'Run' in the 'Start Menu' and type: regsvr32.exe l3codeca.acm. You should then get the message 'DllRegisterServer in l3codeca.acm succeeded'.

  2. Check again that the codec is enabled in 'Audio Codec Properties'.

  3. Navigate to the Entropia Universe 'System Check' to ensure that the Codec status is OK.
If the status is still red, you can reinstall the codec from your Windows XP CD:
  1. Rename the file 'C:\\Windows\\System32\\l3codeca.acm' to 'C:\\Windows\\System32\\l3codeca.bak' as described in the ClientLoader error info.

  2. Insert your Windows CD

  3. Select 'Run' in the 'Start Menu' and type: 'expand E:\\I386\\l3codeca.ac_ C:\\Windows\\System32\\l3codeca.acm'. (Note: This assumes that your CD/DVD drive is E: and your windows directory is C:\\Windows. Change as necessary.)

  4. Repeat the 'regsvr32.exe l3codeca.acm'-procedure as described above.

  5. Delete the previous 'l3codeca file' ('C:\\Windows\\System32\\l3codeca.bak').
