| Introduction
| Whenever an avatar does something in the Entropa Universe, that avatar is using a skill. By using a skill, experience is gained and the skill proficiency level increases.
With over 80 seperate skills available for every avatar, there are many ways for a colonist on Calypso to develop.
By pressing the default key K, you can view the full AVATAR INFORMATION (below) for your avatar. Here you are able to view all the skills available and your own level in each skill. The skills are categorized into different groups. By browsing the tabs at the top of this interface you can view the different skill categories. Some categories contain many skills and require several pages. Use the page function in the lower right corner to browse pages when necessary.

By highlighting a particular skill, a brief description is displayed in the lower text area of the interface.

Understanding the Skill Information Displayed
| The individual skill information displayed contains a lot of information. As well as the brief explanation included in the lower area of the AVATAR INFORMATION panel, the graphical display (left) of each skill includes:
- The name of the skill.
- Your current skill level.
- Your current rank. The rank changes as you increase your skill proficiency level.
- Your experience level for your current rank. When the yellow bar hits 100% you advance a rank.

Increasing Skills
| Skill proficiency levels increase when you use a particular skill, but how do you know when this happens? When you increase your skill levels you will be informed by a message in the chat window (right). These skill messages are written in green. The example above is from a typical hunting trip. Notice how gains are made in a variety of different skills. This is a common feature of most activities.
Initially each skill gain is 1 point, however when you start getting into the higher levels you will notice that every gain no longer gives one point. Instead you will probably receive between 0.2 to 0.4 points. This design makes it more difficult to increase skill proficiency levels as you become more skillful. Somewhat like real life.

| Skills & Experience Details |
Generally, the more experienced you are, the smaller the amount of experience gained. You can influence the experience by performing tasks that are challenging. For example, as an experienced hunter, battling fierce creatures using advanced equipment will bring more experience than going after a low-level creature, using a weak weapon.
In the skills and experience system, there are various resistances at different levels, meaning you have to work harder to make experience gains at certain levels.
The system can sometimes generate a skill experience bonus. For example, when a creature is killed, the system remembers all weapons used during the attack, and therefore your bonus may be applied to a variety of skills. For instance, if you used a long ranged plasma rifle for the first shots, and then killed the creature using a laser pistol, a skill bonus may be applied to both the laser pistol skill as well as to the plasma rifle skill.

Skill Implants
| Skill implants can be described as portable, consumable experience. As you develop your avatar in the Entropia Universe you may wish to increase your skills by buying and inserting a SKILL CHIP (right). SKILL CHIPS are available from the auction. Once inserted, your avatar will receive an instant boost in the particular skill.
You can also sell your own accumulated skills by extracting your skills to an EMPTY SKILL IMPLANT. Using SKILL CHIPS can be described as the uploading of someone elses knowledge to yourself.
|
Inserting Skill Implants
| Inserting SKILL CHIPS is easy. You'll first need to get, equip and fire a PAYN-INC. IMPLANT INSERTER (left). Once activated, drag the SKILL CHIP from your INVENTORY into the PAYN-INC. IMPLANT INSERTER window and press INSERT. Your avatar will be immediately updated with the new skill.
Use the PAYN-INC. IMPLANT INSERTER to insert an EMPTY SKILL IMPLANT if you wish to remove your own skills. Once inserted an interface will prompt you to DOWNLOAD your skill onto it. When the download is complete, you can extract the chip and sell it. |
| New Skills |
As you develop the skills of your avatar in the Entropia Universe you will also discover that you unlock new skills that were not listed in the AVATAR INFORMATION. This is part of the Entropia Universe experience.

Professional Ranks and Levels are presented in detail by pressing the Professions Icon in the Action Library and opening the Professional Standings Panel.
Profession Levels are based on Skill Points and determine your ability to perform tasks and use items.
A full list of all your achieved professions can be reviewed by using category buttons included in the new Professional Standings Panel. You may choose which professional title you wish to display for other colonists. A further option of whether or not to display all your professional achievements for other colonists is also included.
