Finding your Way on Calypso
Overview

Introduction

The two primary ways of travelling in the Entropia Universe are by foot and through use of the teleporters.

Travelling by Foot

Travelling by foot involves either walking or running to your destination. In order to get orientated, please use the map interface, accessible by clicking on the MAP icon (left) in the ACTION LIBRARY or by pressing the M key.

Press the G key to review your default KEYBOARD MAP. You will find the walking and running actions mapped to the W and Q keys respectively.

The Map

The map interface is a helpful feature that will help you from getting lost while exploring the various continents and space stations on and around Calypso.

By using the M key to display the map interface (right) you will be able view the location of your avatar on Calypso. The map also displays which continent your avatar is on. The top arrow toggles the overview area, which can be used to move the map focus area around. The left arrow toggles the list of known areas, cities, and teleporters. The right arrow toggles the city information screen.

When you have visited other continents or space stations, your map will be automatically updated and the new locations will be made available through the toggle button at the bottom of the map interface called CHANGE CONTINENT. To view more information about the various functions in the map interface, click on the '?' button.

The longitude and latitude position of your avatar is displayed above the CHANGE CONTINENT button and can be useful information when communicating your location to friends over long distances.

By activating any or all of the four symbols in the upper left corner of the map you can display known cities and outposts(C), teleporters(T), event areas(A) and homes(H).

The Radar

Your main HUD also has a radar component (left). The radar displays the direction you are currently facing. As you turn and move, the radar direction changes. An option is included in the OPTIONS INTERFACE called 'ALIGN RADAR WITH CAMERA'. When enabled, this option allows the radar to follow the camera's orientation. Otherwise the radar follows your avatar's orientation.

The default setting places north on the top. By clicking on the small triangle in the lower right corner of the radar, you can change the radar mode from dynamic to fixed. The fixed radar mode shows your avatars current viewing direction instead.

The three green bars under the radar mode button show the current server load. The round display bulb in the lower left area flashes different colors depending on which type of zone your avatar is in. Green is normal zone. Red is a dangerous outlaw PvP zone.

The radar picks up reflections from a range of different life forms. Red objects represent hostile life forms like animals, mutants and robots. Green objects are fellow colonists. Yellow objects represent pets or other members of a team. If you join a society, fellow society members will appear as purple dots. Teleporters in your vicinity will appear as light blue objects. AUCTIONEERS, EVENT ORGANIZERS and other friendly NPC's appear as orange objects.

Teleporters

A teleporter is a machine that can move your avatar great distances in almost no time at all. There are many teleporters scattered around the continents on Calyspo, most often found in the most populated cities, towns and outposts.

All new colonists that arrive on Calypso will automatically have a teleporter from the other continent in their list. For example, if you arrive in Port Atlantis on the Eudoria continent, you will also have the New Oxford teleporter on the Amethera continent and vice versa.

All other teleporters must first be discovered before they can be used. While you explore Calypso you will discover towns and outposts that include teleporters. Walk onto the teleporters you discover and they will automatically be added to your teleporter list.

You will now be able to teleport between the areas and teleporters on your list.

Using Teleporters

In order to use a teleporter you simply walk into a teleporter, left click with your mouse, or press the OPERATE action from the ACTION LIBRARY and select a known target teleporter from the map or list that appear. The teleporter list is very similar to the map, the only exception being that it also includes the red teleport button (left).

Choose a location from the teleporter list or pick a known location from the map and click the red teleport button. You will be instantly teleported to the target location.
